Judging & Awards

The Dayton Data Challenge is designed to reward thoughtful analysis, meaningful insights, and effective communication.

Judges will evaluate projects holistically. Strong projects do not necessarily use the most advanced methods; rather, they demonstrate curiosity, sound reasoning, and clear communication of findings.

Judging Criteria

Teams will be evaluated on the quality of their analysis, creativity, communication, and teamwork.

Insight & Relevance

The analysis addresses a meaningful question and provides useful conclusions.

Creativity & Innovation

The team approaches the data in an interesting, thoughtful, or original way.

Clarity of Communication

The findings are explained clearly and effectively.

Technical Soundness

The analysis is appropriate, careful, and well-supported by the data.

Teamwork

The team demonstrates collaboration and shared understanding.

What Makes a Strong Project?

Strong projects often:

  • Ask meaningful questions
  • Use appropriate methods
  • Present clear visualizations
  • Communicate findings effectively
  • Connect results to real-world implications

Awards may include:

Participants who complete the competition will receive a certificate of participation.
